I would be too if someone just gave me a seat in the Senate.
Liberal democracies should never encourage corruption of this kind. Britain has done something similar twice within recent memory, but to an even worse degree.
John Major became Prime Minister in 1990, as Margaret’s Thatcher successor, without a popular mandate (although he did subsequently win the 1992 General Election).
In 2007, this shameful practice occurred again, this time by a Labour government that instilled Gordon Brown as Prime Minister.
This is why most monarchies were overthrown.
