Please do not confuse my posting the pic above with support for a piece of legislation that has the capacity to change everything.
I just like the art, that’s all.
I’m not going to repeat the arguments against climate change legislation here. It hurts my head to think about how willing people are to believe what politicians say and how equally disinterested they are in something that could impact every element of daily life.
Despite Rep. Boehner’s attempt to singlehandedly stave off a victory for the apostles of the (environmental) apocalypse, eight more turncoat Republicans stabbed him in the back by voting for the biggest tax levy in history.
In no particular order of shame, they are:
Bono Mack (CA)
Castle (DE)
Kirk (IL)
Lance (NJ)
LoBiondo (NJ)
McHugh (NY)
Reichert (WA)
Smith (NJ)
44 Democrats, on the other hand, had principles enough to vote against the cap and trade bill.
Swap?

This may be a little premature, but given the Republican Party’s precarious situation in the Senate, preparations – I hope – have been made for this development.
Can’t say I’d be sad to see him go, but returning to his Democrat roots would be disastrous for the Republicans, not to mention the wider conservative movement.
Choices, choices…

Now this is a difficult one. Part of me doesn’t want to include it. General Powell deserves great respect for many of his achievements, not least of all being the first African-American Secretary of State.
And he doubtless harbors some resentment (justifiably) that he went before the UN to argue the case for war with Iraq based on a dossier of dodgy evidence.
But choosing to back then Senator Obama for the presidency without being able to give a substantive rationale as to why you were doing so, was a wonderful way of smearing your entire political career with doody.
Particularly for the man who could well have been America’s first African-American president himself.
