    Larry Langford, One-Man Crime Wave

    December 9th, 2009

    Yep.

    It’s Larry Langford, again.

This guy just cannot resist immersing himself in corruption.  Having been convicted on 60 of 101 fraud, corruption and bribery charges (I’m amazed that he didn’t subsequently make the claim that he was 40-odd percent innocent), claiming that he was the victim of racism and that he was treated him worse than Dahmer and Hilter, Langford is now the guest star in another lawsuit, this one brought by Sandra Howard

suing Milton McGregor’s VictoryLand electronic bingo operation, alleging fraud when employees there escorted Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford to specific machines last month when he won more than $50,000.

Whoa there, Larry!  Slow down some.  You’re hogging all the attention and not leaving enough time for anyone else to enjoy Alabama’s criminal justice system.

This isn’t the first time that Providence directed Larry to the right machines at exactly the right moments, either.  Also from the article:

The suit echoes claims in an unresolved 2007 suit filed by Cynthia Teel against VictoryLand. In that case, an Oct. 23, 2008, affidavit from a VictoryLand employee says officials at the Shorter facility manipulated a machine to guarantee payouts to certain people, including Langford, from 2006 to 2008.

Scandals are attracted to this guy like flies to sh*t.  Who knows what the fixed bingo payouts were all about?  Satisfying his personal greed and buying political favors go without saying, but then why use the public rigmarole of bingo?  Why not a traditional stuffed envelope?  Could this be money-laundering?

At this point – facing over 800 years in jail already – Langford might as well ‘fess up.  Why not claim the credit for Jimmy Hoffa’s disappearance too?  What are the Feds gonna do – increase your sentence?

Go for it, Larry!  Break the millennium-in-prison barrier!

    Worse Than Hitler And Dahmer

    December 7th, 2009

You might remember this guy – Larry Langford, the former mayor of Birmingham, AL – from two posts ago.

He has almost successive entries due to the fact that he is possibly the biggest idiot to have featured on my site.  With competition of the caliber of Jimmy Carter, Diane Watson, Eddie Perez and John Wiley Price, that’s not a title that I bandy about lightly.

But Langford is deserving of the accolade.  Faced with 101 indictments, and convicted on 60 of them, Langford is already looking at an extravagant 800+ year prison sentence.

But that wasn’t enough for him.

So after the conclusion of his trial, Langford and his wife cleverly held an impromptu press conference, where his wife Melva claimed that,

    Hitler wasn’t treated this bad.

Before Larry himself jumped in with,

Jeffrey Dahmer wasn’t treated this bad.

They could’ve done a better job of picking out random criminals.  You’re not going to garner much sympathy by comparing yourself to Hitler or Dahmer, no matter what the context.  If, on the other hand, they’d said that they were being treated harshly compared to, say, Bill Clinton, then it might’ve had some impact.

Anyway, Glennon F. Threatt Jr., one of Langford’s lawyers, was not best pleased with the outbursts, deducing that it could mean additional time behind bars for Langford:

I don’t want it to because he is my client. But if I were a federal judge I would not want people out there saying the system is racist and they were treated worse than Hitler.

You know that you’re stupid when even your lawyer calls you stupid.

PS – A much larger version of the pic above can be viewed here.  Holding a sign with “cycle of stupidity” written on it above your own head is not the most sound strategy that I’ve ever come across.

    Larry Langford Loves Bribes

    December 4th, 2009

    Larry Langford sackcloth

Sackcloth man above is Larry Langford, the former mayor of Birmingham, Alabama.

He lasted two whole years in office before being booted out for corruption.  Really, really pervasive corruption: he was convicted on 60 (!) bribery-related counts against him.  The centerpiece of the case was the testimony of Montgomery investment banker Bill Blount and lobbyist Al LaPierre, both of whom pleaded guilty and testified that Langford received bribes from them amounting to $236,000 in money, clothes and jewelry.

In return, Langford ensured that Blount’s investment bank, Blount Parrish & Co., was included in Jefferson County bond deals and interest-rate swaps that reaped the firm $7.1 million.  Somewhat counter-intuitively, Blount claimed that he was motivated by the desire to “help him [Langford] avoid political sandal.”

In which case, I’d love to see the havoc that he could wreak if he actually intended to cause a scandal.

The verdict is undoubtedly upsetting for Larry’s wife, Melva, who proved that she has imbibed every morsel of the Left’s grievance-mongering, race-baiting modus operandi and then some, by stating that,

He is not guilty.  Only in Alabama can a black man not get a fair trial. The Justice Department has been conspiring and working hard to get my husband.

Yeah, that’s right, Melva. The trial was unfair because (a) the defendant was black and (b) he was found to be guilty.  What stunningly impartial criteria you have there.

Langford faces a potential sentence of 805 years in prison, which is by far the most awesome thing that I’ve read today.

PS – Langford faced 101 indictments in all, the list of which can be read here.  Should you follow that link, however, I can just about guarantee that you’ll hit the “back” button as soon as it’s loaded.  Nevertheless, if you want a chuckle over this moron’s concentrated criminality, go right ahead.
