The US “Occupation” Of Haiti Begins…

According to France, at least.
First, why on earth would we want to do that?
Second, thank you for all your help, as usual, France.
Third, given your habit of devastating as many countries that wanted to leave your empire as possible, there are more salient voices out there with regard to humanitarian relief. If, on the other hand, we wanted to learn all there is to know about defeat and surrender, then we would come a-knocking at your door.
Fourth, just f*ck off, ok?
UPDATE – Jeez, Haiti looks like how I imagine Rwanda did in the aftermath of the 1994 genocide. And still France, as with the Democrats, plays politics?

Not often I take you to task on one of your posts, but this time I do. Military air controllers blocked at least one MSF/DWB flights into Port Au Prince yesterday. And appear to be giving preferential landing rights/slots to U.S. relief aircraft. My take on this is that Barry’O is looking for any glory he can tap out of this to make his admin look good domestically. After all, everything HERE is pretty bleak for BOZ, especially tomorrow’s election in Massachusetts.
BTW, LL at Virtual Mirage has an interesting post on why it might be best to let the French lead the Haiti relief and reconstruction effort. http://symbolic-mirage.blogspot.com/2010/01/plan-for-haiti.html

LA, you’re making me nervous about doing any more France-bashing posts!
But you have a good point. I did read (briefly) about what you mention, and it is petty and troubling – similar bickering occurred when the EU and NATO were both conducting simultaneous operations in Darfur.
I’ve been waiting for the sniping to begin about the US response to Haiti for whatever reason (too slow, too quick, not enough aid, too many candy bars, whatever), which is how I interpreted this story, although I like your perspective more: Barry is just desperate to get a result some/anywhere, no matter how it comes about.

If I remember correctly didn’t the Haitian drive the French out many years ago killing many French woman and children in the process. But like you say, they should do more, but….. its the French. They did finally show up at during the American Revolution–think it was Yorktown.

Yeah, ObaMao is wanting to be the savior of the world. I did not give to any Haitian relief org because he took my choice away to do it by promising $100 million. I feel terrible about what happened to those people, but Haiti’s track record sucks. Until they get rid of the leaders that live in their opulent palaces while their constituents starve and live in poverty, I ain’t givin’ a dime voluntarily. Now, once again they’ve got so much money flowing in they can’t keep track of it and most of it will go to the corruptocrats and little if anything will get to the people who need it most.

Whatever can be done, and whomever does it, I just hope it gets done. God rest the souls of those poor people, and God help the rest.

I had heard the same accusations coming from Chavez and Ortega. Typical leftist garbage.

Yep leave it to France. This was expected from Hugo Chavez but I did not expect it from Sarcozy. How in the hell do they think we can get massive amounts of supplies and man-power there so quickly other than the military?
I say fine, lets pack-up and leave and let France head it up,see how they do.

Leave it to the French to do all of the complaining but none of the helping. Typical.

The United State and France are not the only country that are helping! The are just the one that let the world know when they are doing something “good”. The Dominican Republic president was the first to arrive in Haiti after the quaque, the hospitals in the Dominican Republic are full with people (american, french, dominican, spanich…) who got hurt in the quaque, Venezuela is giving all the oil required to help Haiti, lots of people are helping so stop talking about who should stay and take care of the problem. Refusing a aid plain to land was a pretty stupid thing to do. What does the US army doing there? If they see somebody stealing food or fighting for food, are they going to shoot them? The blue helmets are already there to keep the order. Haiti needs food and water (to keep the survival alive) medical aid, and money to rebuild the country, but not like before, it needs to be rebuild the correct way!
(I’ve lived in France, USA, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, so I know what I am talking about)
January 19th, 2010 at 09:58
The fact that the US is the BIGGEST aid to ANY country suffering ANY catastrophe gives our military the right to prioritize landings, Jean. Get over yourself with you anti-American indignation. You people bad mouth us all over the freakin’ world, but you’ll gladly take our aid when your sorry asses are in trouble, won’t you. You’ll just bitch that it wasn’t enough or didn’t get there fast enough. I’ve seen all before.

The airport in Port-au-Prince is horribly undersized for the amount of planes coming in–some have to be diverted. Further, someone has to be in charge of the tiny airport and it clearly can’t be the Haitian government or the UN at the moment, considering the damage the UN itself is recovering from following the quake.
If France isn’t happy with the way the Army is running things, let them take over. And perhaps some of the tens of thousands of Haitian evacuees that the Red Cross plans on bringing into the US can instead be flown to France.

Hugo Chavez has already accused the US of trying to secretly occupy Haiti. It’s so absurd I couldn’t help but laugh, until I remembered that people actually take this guy seriously. *cough*Danny Glover*cough*

You’ll be reconsidering the French point of view when the Marines are still there three years from now.
We’re going to get stuck governing that Hell Hole and Americans are going to die for it.
and there’s not even oil there.
All we are going to get is thousands of refugees who can’t read and are used to living without law enforcement.
