    Good News from Copenhagen

    al-gore

    Via The Guardian:

    The UN Copenhagen climate talks are in disarray today after developing countries reacted furiously to leaked documents that show world leaders will next week be asked to sign an agreement that hands more power to rich countries and sidelines the UN’s role in all future climate change negotiations.

    Awesome.  And it gets better, with the documents purportedly pushing to:

    • Force developing countries to agree to specific emission cuts and measures that were not part of the original UN agreement;

    • Divide poor countries further by creating a new category of developing countries called “the most vulnerable”;

    • Weaken the UN’s role in handling climate finance;

    • Not allow poor countries to emit more than 1.44 tonnes of carbon per person by 2050, while allowing rich countries to emit 2.67 tonnes.

    The fig leaf of global absolutism has fallen.  In the aftermath of Climategate, the conspirators at Copenhagen (those countries who drafted the secret text supposedly operate under the comical moniker of “the circle of commitment.” Dum dum duuummm!) are engaging in a spectacular double-or-nothing gambit.  As with the domestic US political scene, Obama is in the vanguard of efforts to push something, anything, through before support for self-enslavement deteriorates even further.

    Though reports centering on the leaked documents contain an element of conjecture, its existence should surprise no-one: the prime motivation underlying the war on carbon emissions is unbridled megalomania, whether on the national or international stage.

    There is nothing – not one human activity, from birth until death – that does not result in the release of carbon dioxide.  With this being the case, there is nothing to which such legislation could not potentially be deemed applicable, and nothing for which it could not then be used as justification.

    If this appears to be verging on the hysterical, consider this: when was the last time that the political class awarded itself new powers, which were then left on the shelf?

    Never is when.  County councils in the UK, for instance, have used the cover of recently enacted anti-terror laws to spy on families suspected of putting their trash out on the wrong day.  Which is totally what the legislation was intended to be used for.  Totalitarian climate change legislation would be exploited to even worse effect.

    “Climate change” hyperactivity hurts those who can least afford it the most, in both the developed and developing worlds.  Should the LDCs jump ship, climate change talks will be as paralyzed as the moribund Doha development round.  Even Obama would hesitate (I hope) to conclude an agreement binding only the developed nations to self-destruction.

      Hahaha. And they ordered so many freakin’ limousines that Denmark ran out and had to order from neighboring Germany and Sweden. All these motherf*ckers telling us how we should cut back and then cavorting all over the world in their private planes and limos. When asked how many hybrid cars there were among the 1200 limos and 140 private planes, the rep said 5. Because the taxes are so high on hybrid vehicles in Denmark, it’s not practical to buy them. What a load! Do they think we’re as stupid as they are? C’mon! They can shove their carbon emissions crap right back up their collective asses where it belongs.

      ..a preliminary, perfunctory waggish comment: it’s probably all of the trapped Carbon Monoxide from all the private jets and limos that is affecting their thought processes.

      They ought to get out in the fresh air and walk up and down the streets, looking for those aerobic exercise vendors in the short skirts, fishnet stockings, and high heels.

      (Man, that was tortured. I need a nap.)

      Skiri – I think you need to work on sharing your feelings more openly. Cuz what you say seems a little – ambiguous.

      They are all a bunch of lying hypocritical egotistical assholes. But I repeat myself.

      Obama is for obama his doesn’t give a rats ass about the United States. It is the cause of all the worlds problems as he see things. Some good news from the formally beautiful Copenhagen, but I’ll have to see whats there when the final whistle blows.

      Al Gore: What a pathetic loser. Has to copy Ronald Reagan’s “Thumbs Up”. Why the left continues to prop up that idiot serial grad school dropout as their cause celebre spokesman remains a complete mystery to me. But then maybe I should just shut up and let them them continue to humiliate themselves.

      skiri’ki – but our great and fearless leaders are doing this for us! And for the planet/universe! And for all the children that they don’t abort!

      Войска ПВО – “aerobic exercise vendors” ranks alongside “hydro-engineer” (someone who washes dishes).

      Kris – you and skiri’ki need a who-can-curse-more-in-one-comment-competition. My money’s on skiri’ki at the moment…

      Ron – yep, this is an atom-think silver lining to what is almost certainly going to be the mother of all storm-clouds when a final agreement is reached.

      LA – I wish, but the Left’s appetite for stupid mascots knows no bounds.

      Matt – hilarious and terrifying. We are living in the age of unreason.

      Brad – love it. I would like to murder the phrase “let me be clear”, if only it were possible.

      Spider – I wish he’d stayed away, too. But now that he’s attended, there is no way that he’ll return without a piece of paper to wave around (particularly not after his Olympics rejection). And that means that he’ll settle for anything, not caring what is agreed so long as something is, just as he’s doing with health care, cap’n'tax, etc, etc…
