The “Kill Bin Laden” Cadet

In preparation for receiving Holy Communion, the devout cadet above read “Kill Bin Laden”, a book whose title alone is enough to reduce Barry to a quivering puddle of Leftist bleeding-heartism.
While he was educating himself, and another cadet was preparing to get his nap on, it appears that the guy in the right of the pic was practicing his best “Do you feel lucky, punk?” face.
Look at him! He is really non-nonplussed that the community organizer was there to tell them what to do.
Before they assume office, politicians of every hue should be obliged to spend three months or so with the military. They can choose which branch and where. But they should go.
Most of Congress, and the vast majority of parliamentarians worldwide, lack any direct experience or knowledge of the military. Without which, they are insufficiently prepared to take command of the armed forces. Barry has about as much authority in military matters as I do in oil prospecting (which, just for the record, is none).
UPDATE I: Stormin’s Morning Java has another great pic of Cadet Awesome (and, hilariously, the guy pulling a Dirty Harry is trying out another look in the linked-to pics, this time emulating The Rock).
UPDATE II: Cadet Awesome’s real name is Konrad Bunde.

i like it but i feel bad at the same time because he i gonna get that ass chewed for reading while stupid was reading the teleprompter. kid has been around too. he is wearing a good conduct ribbon, army commendation ribbon and combat infantry badge. he is trying to be an officer, so the good conduct means he did at least 3 years enlisted. a true glutton for punishment. makes me smile.

I love the deliberateness of the way the Cadet is holding the book. He knows he’ll be seen; he’s not reading it, he’s making sure Obama – and everyone else – sees it.

j summ – yep, I imagine he’s been chewed out pretty good by now.
Stormin – 34-0 and seven consecutive wins for Navy says it all.
foutsc – I think Barry would be more likely to opt for some diversity officer position.
Kris – yeah, he totally knew that he’d make the news for this.

Realizing the military is foreign to most of you, here’s what his ribbons mean:
On top, the blue Combat Infantry Badge is for personally engaging in combat.
Second row, sitting by itself, is the Army Commendation Medal for sustained heroism. It also has the “V” device, which is for valor in direct contact with the enemy, but of a lesser degree than required for the Bronze Star.
The next ribbon (ruby, white stripes—third row, left) is the Commendation Medal for exemplary behavior.
The red-gold ribbon (third row, center) is the National Defense Service Medal, which is a campaign medal awarded to those who served during a “national emergency”—the War on Terrorism.
The red-white-black (third row, right) is the Iraq Campaign Medal, and it appears he has the Arrowhead, which means he took part in a parachute drop or helicopter assault.
The blue-gold-red-white stripe ribbon (fourth row, left) is the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
The rainbow red-orange-yellow-green-blue ribbon (fourth row, center) is the Army Service Ribbon awarded to enlisted solider for completion of their initial training.
The black-light blue-white stripe-brown ribbon (fourth row, right) is the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Scott – welcome and thank you for that. I hope it’s evident that any sarcasm in my post is aimed at The One alone. I have great respect for those who service in the military, and even more so when someone knowledgeable such as yourself points out things that would otherwise be lost on me.
The cadet has an array of accomplishments already. Question for you (and j summ) – why does it appear that most of the other cadets were not wearing any ribbons? Is it just that they’re yet to earn them?

This cadet is a former enlisted solider — all of the service academies hold a certain number of slots open for outstanding enlisted men and women who want to become officers, and that’s who we’re dealing with here. His ribbons and CIB — Combat Infantry Badge — mark him as someone who’s already “been there.” And a note–the CIB–the Blue Badge with a Kentucky Long Rifle and a wreath is only earned when people shoot at you or try to blow you up. You can earn campaign ribbons and not necessarily see combat, but when you see a CIB, you’re dealing with someone who put his life on the line. I’ll bet a good number of his professors don’t have them.
The other cadets are bare because, well, they’re just cadets.

Thanks again, Scott. Thought so, but damn my own lack of military knowledge.

I think what disturbs me the most about this photo is the blatant disrespect for his Commander-in-Chief this soldier is showing. Americans are guaranteed the freedom to feel and believe what they wish, including soldiers who fight for those freedoms. And yet, we have apparently reached an age where this kind of behavior is tolerated, nay, lauded by the masses. What is your opinion about that?

Rich – welcome. That might have been troublesome had it occurred during Obama’s speech itself – but it didn’t. The cadet was reading the book as they all waited for the president to arrive. With that being the case, I’ve no problem with it at all.

Track – I’ve had a few commentators at my site that claim the “Kill Bin Laden” book is an exploratory treatise into how Bush ‘let him get away on purpose’ and all of that. Yawn.

Thank you Scott in DC. I wondered about the ribbons this morning when I first saw the picture. Very cool.
