This Is How It Starts

And Europe is how it ends.
Residents at the Oak Apartments in Albany, Oregon, were told by property manager Barb Holcomb that they could not fly any flags because “someone might get offended.”
Good ol’ Barb relented yesterday after the public outcry surrounding her tyrannical decision. One of the news stations whose coverage facilitated this reversal contacted the ACLU to clarify whether the policy banning flags from the apartment complex violated any laws aaaaaand the answer from the ACLU was, quite unsurprisingly: no.
Whether this was a bona fide legal opinion or just the ACLU’s normal knee-jerk reaction remains unclear, however. But I’m fairly sure that it’s the latter.
This is the curse of relativism, and it is destroying Europe. Left-wing parties there are beholden to interest groups that scream racism at anything that benefits the indigenous majority, while allegedly conservative parties are paralyzed by fear that whatever they do will be construed as discriminatory.
If we’re going to start banning things that are potentially offensive to someone else, then there’s no other choice but to ban every single human activity. There is almost nothing we do that some other person does not find offensive, not to mention the fact that our very existence itself is repellent to certain groups of people.
I have extreme difficulty wrapping my mind around the infinite stupidity of people whose sole goal in life is to attack the foundations of the most free and prosperous society to have ever existed. Their shallow, dismal lives consist of an endless fight against an illusory opponent, the mirage of an evil America.
No-one flies flags in Europe (except for soccer hooligans) because it has been ingrained in them that it is an abhorrent, racist sentiment. Which it is not. Without it, European countries have been eviscerated. They do nothing of worth on the international stage, and little of any value domestically, because they no longer know what they stand for, having jettisoned all patriotism and sense of self to appease Left-wing sensibilities.
The world cannot afford for America to do the same.

Track:
Within San Diego County one can see the patriotic division. Visit Coronado island or Oceanside (retired and active military and the unashamed) on any given flag-waving holiday and you will find patriotic expression; visit Hillcrest or La Jolla or any other like-minded enclave and you will find shame, scorn, and repressed patriotism.
The rejection of patriotism correlates with something I haven’t quite figured out yet but I will.

CL – that’s where you are, then? Nice! I’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t like San Diego. I too have difficulty in precisely relating the loss of patriotism to other, more tangible things going wrong in our nation-states, but it is cause and effect: nothing good flows from lacking belief in your country.

It is actually illegal to ban the flying of the American flag on US soil. I will try to find the link and post it. The ACLU is not a friend to me.

The Constitution of the United States of America protects jack-asses, too. Barb Holcomb, the jack-assette in question, actually has the right to make the rule that she made on private property. The rule is incredibly stupid. It demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of and appreciation for the freedoms that have been won for her through the sacrifices of her fellow Americans, past and present. Radical Islamists won’t worry about offending anyone when they take control and force the Barb Holcombs of the world to done a burqa.

That’s why so many come HERE and not-so-many go elsewhere. Pity we can’t MAKE ‘em go.
Spent 4 years in Poway while My Chief was stationed at North Island. Liked it a lot.

No, Ms. Holcomb doesn’t have the right to make that rule. This was enacted for just the kind of situation. That was why the very next day she rescinded the ban. If people are so damned offended by the US flag, then IMHO then can get the fuck out of this country.

Arby – my thoughts exactly. While we have morons like this undermining us from within, we have enemies like the Islamists waiting to attack from without. Combine them and the sh*tstorm is coming.
KC – exactly. If the US is such a terrible place, why is it (still) the world’s most desirable target for immigrants?
skiri’ki – thank you for that. I’m going to see if I can find what justification the ACLU had for saying that this lady could prohibit the flying of the flag…

Poway is another of the better enclaves.

P.S. I didn’t mean “better” in the La Jolla way, rather that Poway is one of the places I’d live.
