    What Not To Wear

    michellepartydressmedalofhonor

To a posthumous awarding of the Medal of Honor ceremony.

    Aack.

I think that my eyeballs are trying to turn backwards in their sockets.

Thank you, Michelle Obama’s Mirror’s Blog and Pundit & Pundette.

Now that’s a really subtle dress for such an occasion – NOT!

And a big thank you for adding me to your blogroll, TAC.

Wow. That’s kind of crazy. No wonder the President looks so grim.

Thanks for adding me to your blogroll, BTW. :)

I kept looking at that photo thinking that perhaps it was a joke. And I was right. She is.

The posthumous Medal of Honor award ceremony was obviously just an inconvenience they were forced to attend to before hitting the town for a few cocktails.

      Folks,

Your specious comments on this subject need re-thinking. This is the highest medal that can be awarded and it is not handed out like M&Ms. Only Sonic Ninja’s even close to understanding the gravity of the situation. The Sargent to whom this was awarded was incredibly brave in his attempts to rescue a fallen comrade.

Basically, this woman’s taste in clothes for this occasion approximates a woman dropping her panty hose and pinching a loaf in the punch bowl during a state dinner in full view of the audience!

I am sorry to get a little weak here, but I kind of hate to see this cavalier attitude by these wannabe assh*le politicians and angry, fashion-challenged first-ladies when it comes to those who give up their lives in the defense of their country.

The woman is a crass, tasteless, angry endomorph. Her husband is beyond understanding. What would Jesus do? Hell, what would Laura Bush do?

(J-, sorry to lose it here, but as you know, I have a special reverence for the members of our military.)

It’s the blue shoes that really make the outfit for me. It takes a bold and saucy woman to wear an orange dress and blue shoes.

Neither of these two have any sense of protocol as evidenced by clothing and behavior during their first trip overseas.

Everything we hold sacred, everything we honor, is a joke to them.

Every past presidential wife knew instinctively what to wear to honor a fallen hero.

Perhaps this one thinks the hooker look is in?

Voyska, your outrage is more than justifiable, but a little harsh – I set the tone through concentrating on MO’s stunningly inappropriate choice of clothes (and, through it, the disgrace that this caused the occasion), rather than immediately focusing on the dishonor that she was doing to the memory of U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Jared C. Monti.

Meadow, Steve B, ithitsthefan – welcome, I’ve added your sites to my blogroll.

..it was perhaps because op less-than-adequate sleep on my part..

..but I stand by my admonition and this is — surprisingly — similar to (though far more tasteless) the time Bill Clinton was admonished by the parent of a posthumous CMH recipient from the Somalian (”Black Hawk Down” incident) because of his cavalier attitude towards the military.

People should be reminded that it is not about “them” or fashion statements (or mis-statements), it is about the brave who gave their life for this country.

I especially find the pattern of the dress distasteful – given that the award being given is posthumous, it is in particularly bad taste to wear something that looks like a battlefield of humanity.

It’s just more evidence that they both don’t give a damn about the office, or the event, only about themselves. She has 16 assistants for cryin’ out loud. Where did she find the one who advises her on clothing? The Tenderloin? Just another obvious reason why she does not belong in the WH or the FL position. She’s no class just as much as her husband is no experience. They are both an embarrassment.

..that was a righteous exercise of principle (to some extent) and in our later years — as we have matured — we fortunately have separated political martial policy from those in the military who have nobly volunteered to serve.

Okay. Wildly inappropriate for the occasion? Yes. Definitely. Without a doubt.

No accounting for taste, I guess, but I like the dress. It’s a classic cut, the print is colorful but not generally harsh (although, again, I also had Guernica thoughts, given the occasion). It’s certainly much much much better than neon-in-Abbey day, or the pope outfit. And, I mean, clearly she’s fashion challenged, but at least she made the effort to dress up a bit, silk dress and all. I dunno. I’m horrified that it sounds like I’m defending this woman about anything – I’m defending the dress. It’s not the dress’ fault! =)
