She’s A Man, Baby!
Oh, Lordy.
There must be few better feelings that winning a world championship gold medal. The amount of work that goes into it, unless you’re a drug fiend, is barely imaginable and the knowledge that you are one of, if not the, very best there is at what you do in the entire world must be both awesome and humbling.
Alternatively, there must be few things worse than finding out that you’re a hermaphrodite (although, I think that the more scientific term for this condition is “freak.”).
Come to think of it, that can pretty much only be made worse by the international press revealing to a global audience that you are a bona fide she-male.
After you’ve won a world championship gold medal.
Talk about hitting the highest peak and lowest trough of your life in quick succession. It’s like being elected POTUS only to discover that you are, in fact, really cr*p at doing something that you’d assumed you’d be wicked awesome at.
The final indignity for Caster Semenya is likely to be that she’s stripped of her gold medal.
Non-sequitor alert: how many hermaphrodites are there alive?
And how many of that infinitesimal number are in peak physical condition?
I reckon that Semenya should be rewarded for that alone. Or at least given her/his own category of competition! Or maybe use her/him as a special guest-star for competitions, to add an element of surprise to the usual, staid male/female routine!
The possibilities are endless!

I can not beleive you would call this person a “freak.” No one has control over if a person is born a boy, a girl or a mixture of the two. This is not to say, the powers at be should have taken care of what ever issues would have been brought up about this person being a hermaphrodite and competting in such an event. Lets not be mean about this person being a little different. After all, this person can not help it.

Semenya (portmanteau anyone?) was not on my albeit low-powered radar until today. Has she/he been suspected of this for a while?
I’m not an expert at these things, but it does seem to me that there’s a small hint in the photo that says “outie” and not “innie.”

They should test her DNA to see if it is all female (for the purpose of being allowed to compete). Other than that, I don’t think it’s so strange. It probably happens more often than you think. These are human beings after all.

tee hee…One comment on that site claimed it was a human rights abuse not to call her by whichever gender label she prefers. Tossin’ that term around pretty lightly these days, aren’t we?
