Barbara B. was quick to stop an American general who called her Ma'am, but failed to say anything when a black man called her the same thing. This in itself shows you where the lady is coming from. I enjoyed every minute of the dressing-down Harry Alford gave her--I suspect she is still stinging from it.

Red,

My reaction would normally be similar to yours, and Alford is pretty quick to pounce on the race issue.

But I think it's valid, here. Boxer was effectively telling Alford that because he's black, he should therefore agree with the findings of other (more numerous) black individuals/organizations that align themselves with Boxer.

Boxer was bringing race into something (energy policy!) that had nothing to do with race. Worse still, she was attempting to use the views of other African-Americans to browbeat the man in front of her, rather than just disagree with him herself.

The Left hates nothing more than minorities who dare to resist their fatal embrace. People like Harry Alford terrify Democrats. So Boxer tried to softly undermine him, not by questioning his science but by questioning his standing.

I see the point but only barely. I'm no fan of Senator "Ma'am" but I guess I'm not seeing where Mr. Alford got so bent out of shape. Is it that she was deferring to another black group who supported her agenda? Would his reaction been different had she quoted another group (non-black)?
Enlighten me because while I can sort of see what the issue is, he seems like a person that is quick to jump on "race" as an issue.
