    Our Last, Best Hope?

With the socialists having attained a filibuster-proof Senate, there is one remaining path of resistance open to Republicans.

They should all abandon Congress, remove themselves from the DC morass and go back to their individual States until the 2010 elections are over.

Our impotence in the legislative process is compounded by the presence of numerous RINOs, ensuring that our attempts to oppose catastrophic policies such as cap and trade are futile.

So let’s return to the roots.  Republican Congressmen and Senators (plus staff) should spend the next year traveling extensively throughout their states.  Do town hall meetings, diner stops, canvassing, door-to-door appearances, spontaneous walkabouts, go on tours with incumbents and candidates, support the State’s rights movements, whatever.  Just meet people.

    Meet everyone.

The point here is twofold.  Firstly, rejuvenation – if it is to be at all effective – is only possible through intense interaction and involvement with the grassroots.  So far, so predictable.

Here’s the twist.  Secondly, this would underscore the reality that everything, every single thing, that comes out of Congress is solely the product of misguided Democratic minds.

Voters will not then be able to contaminate both parties with the follies of this administration.  The impending disasters will inescapably be attributable only to the Left.

Do I expect this to be done?

Not a chance.  It would open the Republicans up to damaging accusations of a mass dereliction of duty, turning their back on the US of A, etc.

But this would focus attention on the power grab in Washington DC.  It would allow Republicans to define themselves, undermining the caricatures spewed forth by the mainstream media, and, at least equally importantly, allow normal people to identify with evil, baby-eating conservatives.  It would draw a line in the sand, from which we can then slaughter any remaining Democratic survivors in the coming years.

It could revolutionize the party’s image and support base.

    So f**k the risks.

Have a great Independence Day, patriots.

Track, nobody can accuse you of being faint of heart. Interesting….

      I like the idea.

It scares me, but I like it anyway.
Unfortunately, it shows a willingness to stand on principle, and that’s probably not going to be found among our Congressweasels.

Dude, that’s a capital idea. Or is that a Capitol Idea? The remaining loyal Republicans should do mass-mailers to their constituency explaining what they plan to do, and then do it…

I like it. Declare a General Strike and go home!

Reminds me of last summer… I had moved and needed to update my voter’s registration. I was pretty sick of Republican weenieness and was not enthusiastic about McCain. Then the House stayed in session to protest the Dem handling of the gas crunch. That got my attention. Then Palin was selected and I was fully on board.

Now, I dunno. The RINOs p*ss me off enough that it’s hard to count myself a Republican. If a so-called R can vote for porkulous or cap-n-tax, I don’t want to associate with them in any way. A bold protest in the form of a walk-out would be just the ticket to get people like me revved up again.

There is one thing that conservatives MUST do to win in 2012 – REWORK OUR PRIMARY SYSTEM!!!! In the last election too many crossover voters from the DNC wormed their way into our election and “selected” a RINO in John McCain to be our candidate. Most members of the base, the true conservative party, stayed home and didn’t vote in 2008.

Are there enough Republicans to deny Congress a quorum should they go home?

    7. Track-A-'CratNo Gravatar Says:

      Sandy,

I’m torn on that one, as there were also many crossover voters going the other way (not that that helped us, in the end). But we do need to motivate the base more next time.

      Brett,

      An intellectual point, like it!

I think that a quorum in the House requires 218 Reps. and in the Senate requires 51 Sens. – the minimum number of people needed to conduct business.

So, no, we can’t even be spoilers and deny the other side a quorum.
