A Sophisticated Solution
Although President Obama refuses to aid the courageous protesters in Iran (or, as he cowardly puts it, refuses to “meddle“), there comes a point when even the most militantly-pacifist Lefty should be prepared to intervene.
That time has now come in Iran, after an Iranian prosecutor declared that the protest leaders could face the death penalty under sharia law.
The protesters have not been cowed by intimidation, violence and promises of recriminations. Their demonstrations are continuing but will not be sustainable without aid.
So here is my sophisticated solution:
Drop lots and lots of weapons into the hotspots in Iran. The world doesn’t much like it when America takes out evil foreign despots, so let’s let those under the yoke of such tyrants do it themselves. It’d be cathartic for them. Plus we wouldn’t then have to deal with remnants of the ancien regime trying to claw back their power, as they’d all be dead and rotting.
There’d be no US troops on foreign soil, so no American deaths, so nothing for the Left to shamelessly exploit as they talk about advancing freedom in the world but do nothing to achieve it.
Better still, where could this tactic not be applied? Zimbabwe, Darfur, Burma, China, Syria, North Korea and the United Kingdom are all perfect places for such action and the people in each would be eternally grateful.

What you’re missing is that all of the complexity and constraint upon BHO’s options are a result of GWB’s horrible foreign policy.
Never forget the “blame Bush” angle.

What the liberals fail to recognize, or at least appreciate, is that GWB liberated the people of Iraq from a brutal dictatorship. Were Obama half of a man he would assure the Iranian people that America stands on the side of freedom and liberty. But he can no longer say this with any confidence while his minions diligently work to strip Americans of their rights to do exactly as the Iranian people are doing now. Obama’s AG, Holder, contends that the recent shootings of Tiller and the Holocaust Memorial were spurred on by political extremists, and, as we have seen, Obama considers Fox News an arm of the GOP.
The internet is on the Obama radar as a targetable source of right wing communication, and Obama will, as a matter of survival, find a way to regulate free speech as it is today on the web.

I don’t know the best approach in this situation, but I can’t understand why Obama is pretending to be Switzerland.

Iran’s rhetoric is eerily similar to when they pitched a hissy about a perceived coup attempt from the U.S. and the exiled Shah back during Carter’s administration. We all know how that ended.

You see, helping oppressed people in other countries is just wrong. Just let them get herded into concentration camps so we don’t have to hear about them any more.
