It’s The Economy, Stupid

Americans, in my experience, are an optimistic bunch. It’s one of the biggest, and best, differences between people here and in Europe.
But they’re not optimistic at the cost of practicality. Which is why Jimmy Carter, foreign policy genius, lasted only one term before having his tuckus spanked by The Gipper.
And, while it’s not wise to put much credence in polls, they are nevertheless useful as a general gauge of public opinion. Particularly when they find that, for the first time in two years, Republicans are now viewed more favorably by the public on economic issues than the Democrats.
Wow. Even Carter managed to fool the electorate for longer than this (thank you, Voyska PVO).
I’m not blind to the faults of my own party. The Bush administration, even though it included sizable outlays for 9/11, Katrina, Afghanistan and Iraq, spent money like Elton John writ even larger.
But Obama’s borrow-print-tax-and-spend policy is so egregiously bad that normal voters (i.e. people not as obsessed with politics as you and I) are being turned off in droves.
What, the thought of unlimited government spending under the watchful eye of Joe Biden doesn’t do it for you?
Heckuva job, Democrats!

hopefully, we’ll have a shift to right like what happened in Europe yesterday.

Stormin, good to see you!
It’s a start at least in Europe, although hardly any of the so-called “conservative” parties over there deserve the name…
Still, it’s better than a kick in the nuts.

Folowing your links, J-, one finds this even more sobering quote:
“Democrats continue to hold the lead on the issues of health care, Social Security and education. While Democrats have a 10-point advantage on health care, that’s down from the 18-point lead the party had a month ago.”
Also from your sources, consider the areas where the Republicans have regained public favor: (1) politics and ethics, (2) spending and the tanking economy, and (3) naional security.
Hmmmmmm. Does that sound familiar?
Let’s review the events of the last 120 days or so: (1) Obama’s inability to appoint anyone to his cabinet who did pay all of their taxes or did not hire illegal Filipina maids, (2) then the unread porkulus bill, and finally (3) the fireworks display out of North Korea (Kinda like Disneyland at 9:30 PM every night) and Aqua-Velva-jad popping off about pulling the chain on Israel and The Boy King’s butt-smoocherama junkets to Europe and the Middle East.
So, Bill, tell the people what’s behind door #3?
Why, we have a run on the health care arena, don’t we?
Plonk!
..another turd in the punchbowl.
