Now this, I like.
President Obama has requested that Utah Governor Jon Huntsman be the next US ambassador to China. Huntsman, who is fluent in Mandarin, is also a Republican and seen by some, not least within the Obamaverse, as a potentially scary future threat to The One.
So let’s send him halfway around the world for the next few years! Problem solved!
I love the audacity of this. Sure, it is a great honor and responsibility for Huntsman. But it’s also a naked political move, as the president seeks to remove those around whom opposition to his rule could form.
Kings of old used to do this: send a rival on guaranteed-to-be-dangerous missions. If they returned, much respect and reward were theirs. If they didn’t? Oh well, what a shame.
Sneaky! Yet practical – Huntsman will do well in this role.
Final thought: how many previously devoted supporters has the president alienated through doing this?
