Tolerating Intolerance

This is just downright confusing.
Politics, to me, is like a Venn diagram. Except that the two circles don’t touch, much less overlap. So I guess it’s more accurate to say that politics is like two circles that are nowhere near each other.
Er, anyway.
Then again, if I’d done as much crack as him, I wouldn’t know if I was thinking or speaking or even just awake. He’s probably not that sure, either.
Someone please answer me this: neither the Democrats nor the Republicans support gay marriage. Neither (rightly) seeks to introduce new laws, or reinstitute old ones, against homosexuals.
So why are Republicans still castigated as homophobes?
Whereas Marion Barry is allowed to oppose gay marriage, as he’s reflecting the demands of his constituents. And, as a Democrat, he obviously opposes it in a softer and more gentle way than Republicans do.

Smitty,
Thank you for the vid, I’ve not seen it before. Wonderful speech, he doesn’t stutter or hesitate once, and it’s entirely coherent. He encapsulates my entire political stance perfectly.
