What Would Obama Do?

This is my first post as a married man (more on that later).
But fear not fellow free-thinkers, for marital bliss has not dulled my blade.
When back in the UK, as I am now, there are some questions that people invariably ask. After the small talk of how long I’ll be away for and why I enjoy being in the States so much, there always follows the eternal question.
Is Obama better than Jesus?
Slight exaggeration there, I admit. But not by much.
This Wednesday, Michael D’Antuono’s doodle “The Truth” (above) will be unveiled at New York City’s Union Square. The artist knows well that a stunt like this will garner him infinitely more attention than his mediocre ability warrants, and the blogosphere (including moi) is guilty of indulging D’Antuono’s limelight cravings.
But why does the Left consistently hail its latest representative as the Risen Lord? And how many times can they withstand crushing disappointment?
Those on the Left always rush to proclaim The One (and The Next One and The One After That) as they are ready and willing to relinquish their own freedom to act, and let someone else decide everything for them.
Since time immemorial, or at least the publication of The Communist Manifesto, Lefties have psychotically believed that they alone have discovered absolute truth. The high-priest of Leftiness, therefore, is the embodiment of this “truth” and accorded the level of a deity.
“Truth” aside, give me what works. Conservatives prefer to retain their freedoms and solve their own problems themselves. This needs only a figurehead with enough sense to promulgate practical remedies, not an egomaniac with a Messiah complex.

First, best wishes and congratulations.
Second–having a figurehead and letting the conservatives “retain their freedoms” (hello, Patriot Act, anyone?!) bought us 8 years of George Bush and puppet masters Rove and Cheney. I don’t think Obama is Jesus–not even close. I do think he is an Intelligent, level headed man who will hopefully lead us well.

Stormin, thank you!
Dave, will check out your site as soon as I can.
Onlinepastrychef, wish I could share your optimism, except Obama has done nothing but steep himself in far-Left orthodoxy for his entire adult life.
I also doubt the intelligence of his having already spent at least $5 trillion (over twice the 2008 federal budget) with substantial hidden costs yet to be counted and more largesse to come…

Obama has, in his first hundred days, set the nation’s development back by an entire generation.
He has:
set major inflation in motion for 2010,
invited our enemies to attack the US homeland and
recruited new terrorists for the enemy
All major accomplishments to be sure.
Obama has invited an attack on the US by showing those that would attack us that the US is more willing to listen and be nice. Just as Bin Laden predicted, America looks for someone to sue rather than fight. Obama has just made Bin Laden into a prophet and has encouraged others to join him. It will take a generation of conflict to rid the world of what Obama has planted.
The next attack on US soil cannot be blamed (like everything else) on GW Bush. Obama will have to answer for it.

Is the deification of Obama by the liberals significantly different from what happened with Bush and the conservatives? Didn’t the conservatives think he was the answer to life, the universe and everything? Didn’t he take power beyond what is usually granted to the president? I don’t get what the big deal about Obama is.

Many congratulations to you and S.
All good wishes for the future.

MAS1916,
Unfortunately, I also do not believe that the US will go another 8 years without a “successful” domestic terrorist attack. I hope I am proven completely wrong, but the Democrats refuse to recognize the threat facing us for what it is, which does not fill me with confidence regarding their security policies.
Nahgems,
I would say it is vastly different. Can you remember one newspaper article, portrait, interview, etc where someone draws a comparison between W and Jesus? I cannot, but how many such have there been about Obama already?
So much attention is being focused solely on Obama’s personality that his policies and appointments are escaping with little scrutiny, the blogosphere aside.
