African Horror Story Of The Day

Weekend posts at Track-A-’Crat, I’ve decided, are to be expanded to encompass insanity in the rest of the world, so that we can reassure ourselves that it’s not only happening in America.
Africa’s always good for providing some perspective.
It’s a wonderful place with brave people and has undoubtedly been treated less than well during the past.
But if you’re looking for pure craziness, nowhere else on the planet even comes close.
Take Gambia. The Gambian government – we’re talking about the state itself here – has kidnapped as many as 1,000 people during a recent witch-hunt.
Even using the word “witch-hunt”, though, seems to imbue it with some kind of slight legitimacy, like this is a widely-practiced policy, the sort of thing that might be done by any rational, national authority.
I wonder how members of the Gambian cabinet proposed and discussed this “initative”? Over wine and cigars?
