Salient though it is, President Obama’s GIVE Act can be discredited through something much more mundane than the Hitler Youth comparison.
It just isn’t needed in America.
The voluntary sector, charity, philanthropy, etc, all thrive in the US like nowhere else. Take “Adopt A Highway”, for instance. People choose, of their own free will, to maintain a stretch of road.
Wow.
That would never happen in Europe, primarily because government has assumed the task. But if the state did not do it, Europeans would still not choose to.
That is one of the many wonderful differences between here and there.
This legislation is about control, pure and simple. For the Left, anything outside of government control (religion, business, charity, private lives) has always been A Very Bad Thing.
