What Not To Do
It’s becoming increasingly popular in the States to compare the plight of the Republican Party with the demise of the Conservative Party (officially in 1997 but in truth much earlier).
Any similarities have been overstated.
The Tories have been out of power for 12 years but have been fatally unpopular for well over 15 years – perhaps approaching 20 years. That is only now changing.
So Republicans should not look too closely at the British Conservatives.
Particularly not when they advocate raising the top rate of income tax.
Americans who wish to vote for a European-style social-democratic party already have one option – they do not need two.
