So Much In Common
In 1975, President Thieu of then South Vietnam stated:
“The US did not keep its word. Is an American’s word reliable these days? The US did not keep its promise to help us fight for freedom.”
President Obama should bear this in mind as he mulls over an outreach to “moderate” members of the Taliban.
Pakistan has concluded innumerable “treaties” with the Taliban in the North-West Frontier Province and every single one of them has been worthless (except to the Taliban itself).
If Pakistan cannot gain the cooperation of so-called moderate members of the Taliban, what possible chance does the US have?
